Warning: Nothing More Than Ranting
Apr. 27th, 2009 03:13 pmDumb, FAA, real dumb. Yes, okay a 747 to fly LOW in lower Manhattan, around Ground Zero, circling at around the same time on a similarly clear day. Then trail two fighter jets after it.
All for us to see.
And thought it wasn't worth telling us? Puzzling why people, including myself, start calling 911 about a low flying plane at 10 in the %@!@%#@ morning?
Photo op, my [bleep]. Yes, give Yum@ another stroke, why don't you?
Just when you think you've moved on, someone comes up from behind to run you over with a semi, Winchester style.
Peeved. That's all I can really say.
All for us to see.

Right Now: We're Surrounded By Heroes
Jan. 15th, 2009 06:08 pmLess than a minute when the news broke in to my regular programming to say a plane crashed in our Hudson River, I heard a swarm of sirens, copters, and fire trucks that I haven't heard since 9/11 charging under my window, whizzing uptown. Not a lot of pleasant memories are attached to that noise and I'll be lying if I didn't look out the window after the news, fearing I'll see something again I'll never forget. But:
Circle Line Waterway Ferries: when they sighted the plane landed, rushed their ferries (docked because of the weather) got out there ASAP to see if they can help. Survivors said the first thing they saw were the ferries, the crew all by the bow, throwing out life jackets, pulling people up
Police: NYPD, Weehawken PD, mobilized within minutes in a coordinated swoop to the river even before impact
Passengers: standing on the wing of the downed plane, were pictured helping women, children and elderly into rafts before they climbed in
People: passerbys rushed to the ferries' dock as the survivors arrived to give blankets, their coats, lend their cellphones so they can call loved ones
All over, people ran towards to help.
Despite all the craziness in the world, scary events, horrible stuff there's something assuring to know we're surrounded by heroes.
Gosh darn it, I love my town. :)
