We All Need A Hug Today

I think the day snuck up on me too soon. Then again, when can one ever prepare for this?
I look out there in the sky and see the twin pillars of blue light in the night. I understand the memorial, but there are times I wish they didn't relight the sky and remind us what was lost seven years ago.
No matter what your political party is, if you hate/love USA, thought we did/did not deserve this, it was a dark moment in the history of man. It was the day that truly showed me how bad man can be.
So, today is a day that was a more than a loss of lives, but of a way of life.
But I also saw people banding together.
I saw the long march of dusty people heading north on my street, perfect strangers stopping to help people they didn't know.
I saw a long row of fire trucks from different states drive by my empty streets to help.
I saw a woman waving an American flag as police cars drove by. I saw a police officer climb out of a car to shake her hand.
I saw rows of people behind me as we stood on streets that smelled like wet smoke, waiting to see what water bottles we could pass out, what towels we could give to rescuers, what we can do at all to feel like we weren't doing nothing.
On the 11th, I saw the worse of man.
On the rest of the days, I saw the best of man.
Hugs to everyone today. Just because.
