Oh good God, I wrote a drabble. I was curious, I poked and thus was tagged. 100 words? Not as easy as I thought. Ficlet is -meh-, but I always believe in practice makes perfect.

Ensign Clifton still refers to himself as cadet sometimes.

...sweat but his skin was dry

...breathe but suffocating

...footfall

...a shadow they'd all missed

...lightning screams and soars horizontal

a child cries...

He stood at the foot of bodies splayed like dolls fallen in place, limbs reaching uselessly for each other. Blood pools a shade lighter than the blood in him. But it's still blood.

A hand takes his phaser. A flash of gold shirt, of blue that reminded him the sky of his Earth home. All he could say, when everything was over, was that it was an accident.

Having just written a few for the McShep match drabble tree, I would concur, drabbles *are* hard! Yours is, wow! Very evocative.

Thanks. I had joined thinking, "Hey, 100 isn't a lot" but oh boy, the tight control of imagery versus emotions? Yikes.

Ah, but it kick starts me to returning to neglected fic. :)
