Less than a minute when the news broke in to my regular programming to say a plane crashed in our Hudson River, I heard a swarm of sirens, copters, and fire trucks that I haven't heard since 9/11 charging under my window, whizzing uptown. Not a lot of pleasant memories are attached to that noise and I'll be lying if I didn't look out the window after the news, fearing I'll see something again I'll never forget. But:

Circle Line Waterway Ferries: when they sighted the plane landed, rushed their ferries (docked because of the weather) got out there ASAP to see if they can help. Survivors said the first thing they saw were the ferries, the crew all by the bow, throwing out life jackets, pulling people up
Police: NYPD, Weehawken PD, mobilized within minutes in a coordinated swoop to the river even before impact
Passengers: standing on the wing of the downed plane, were pictured helping women, children and elderly into rafts before they climbed in
People: passerbys rushed to the ferries' dock as the survivors arrived to give blankets, their coats, lend their cellphones so they can call loved ones

All over, people ran towards to help.

Despite all the craziness in the world, scary events, horrible stuff there's something assuring to know we're surrounded by heroes.

Gosh darn it, I love my town. :)

I thought of you as I was watching CNN and wondered if you could see or hear any of it.

Rather a miraculous event.

if you could see or hear any of it.

Thankfully, no. I really don't need to hear another low flying plane again. I can still remember how my windows vibrate for hours because after 9/11, the jets that were scrambled were so loud.
