NaNoWriMo

Probably not a good idea. I mean, how many projects and zines are waiting in the sidelines for me? And while I may like to write fanfic, it's a bit of a leap from fanfic to novel and the multiple "me too!" I'm seeing on LJ makes me want to shrink.

But maybe it's time to sit down and write about what's spinning in my head and get over the past few years. Dump the drama in paper and move on; like going from wheelchair to cane. Life was put on hold far too long and while I know I'm not 100% (and won't ever be), I need to see on paper just where my life went and where it's going. Without the melodrama, 'made for Lifetime, cue sappy emo music' or the pity parade. The novel for me would be...well...about me. Time to do some mental spring cleaning...in November, no less. Have to start somewhere and maybe NaNoWriMo is the way to kickstart me.

Wish me luck. :)

You know, honey, I think that sounds like a brilliant idea. You have a lot to share, especially from these last couple of years!

I don't know if I have a lot to share per se. My fear had always been that writing about it will devolve to whining about it. But hey, if anything, it's be like shouting out a canyon or whatever those yoga experts suggest doing to de-stress. I wouldn't know. I'm afraid of heights. LOL

Oh, good luck! I'm still waffling myself.

I really should- I've got so many writing projects piled up- it would feel so good to get something moving.

I've got so many writing projects

Well the challenge here is not use any of your current projects and start new from Day one. I'm tempted to revisit my unfinished fanfic but I think in this case, starting fresh might be good to get that inital burst.

Like that new car smell. What would new fic smell like? Chocolate? LOL

Oh, I wasn't thinking of a current project that has actually had any *writing* done on it...I've got a whole collection of 'stuff I wanna write when I get time'. The one I kinda-sorta-maybe-am-thinking-about-if-I-do-it is basically just a concept. All that's written is a couple paragraphs generally describing the idea. I think going in with a vague general idea of what you're going to do is actually encouraged!

I agree with DJ - that sounds like an amazing, very healthy, and proactive (and, very brave) thing to undertake.

If you do get it all down on paper, I hope it helps you ... and if you decide to share it, I am sure it would help other people as well. We all have a lot to learn from you ;-).

((hugs))

-shrugs- Who knows? The times I was in the hospital, people kept saying "you should write a book about this" but other than wondering what music soundtrack would be playing, I hadn't given it much thought. LOL

Misery loves company! LOL. Is this your first time? I never heard about this until someone approached me about it a few weeks ago...

I've tried two previous years, but failed miserably. Third time lucky? I think your idea to write about all that has been happening in your life is really good. I definitely like to read what you write.

So far, I'm worried it's going to be more Hunter Thompson that anything else. I frankly didn't remember much my stay then pre-surgery, then in the ICU. They had me in an induced coma so there were a lot of dancing elephants and kareoking Stargates, I'm afraid. LOL.

If it has the potential to be cathartic and therapeutic, do it. If it devolves into whining at times, that's just fine. Wallow in the whine and then move on. I'm sure it would be a good personal exercise in seeing where you've been, all you've been through, and the possibilities of where you want to go. Sometimes you need to make that journey in writing to get perspective.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. I don't expect to write a great novel. Just to finish one.

Sounds like a good way to blow off some issues, as well as writing a novel! Good luck.

Thank you! At the very least write a novel, although from what I recall, back in fandom, I remember a lot of us wrote novels.

We just called it fic. LOL

Good luck with it! I wish I could sign up for it, but I don't have the time.

but I don't have the time.

That's what I kept telling myself, but then I realized "Uh, not working, not going to school, not doing volunteer work....how am I busy?"

I really have no excuse except for fear factor. LOL. :)
