mrwubblesThis was a conversation with some of my friends a while ago. This question posed here was derived from a different question. It made for some really fun fic inspirations. Thought I would bounce the idea back out to you all as well. If any fic comes out of any of these for me, I'll link it back to this post.

The purpose of this question is just fun for your muses and generate some pressure free discussion for everyone. Enjoy.
Food For Thought: If we were to think up of one item for our favorite character as most important to them, what will it be? But it can't be an obvious one. ie: Dean's leather jacket (SPN) but maybe what was in his pocket. No need to answer every one. Feel free to think up some from your favorite fandoms too. Remember, this is just to make your muses go "Hmmm..." :)
NCIS -->
LEROY JETHRO GIBBS: a busted service medal his daughter had once used for a tea party by mistake. It's all dented and painted over with melted crayons. Kelly tried to wash it out but it didn't work and she hid it at first, afraid daddy would be mad. He wasn't. He could never be mad at her. Even now, with all the medals Tony stores for him, this one is in his workbench so he could look at it every time he's working on the boat.
TONY DINOZZO: the torn uncashed check his father wrote him as a bribe not to go ahead with law enforcement. His father's driver had shown up one day, a week before graduation to give Tony the check. The moment Tony saw it made out to 'cash' and not his name, Tony tore it up. He's been keeping it in his wallet ever since. Only Gibbs knew about it and only purely by accident because on his first year of NCIS, Gibbs searched his wallet to find an Emergency Contact to sign for a surgery. Gibbs never told Tony about it and that point forward, made sure Tony made Gibbs his emergency contact. Just in case.
TIMOTHY MCGEE: the first bad review for his novel. You decide the reason why. :)
ABBY SCUITO: ooh, tough one, have to think about that one.
DONALD 'DUCKY' MALLARD: a garter belt, that was satin not lacey, pink not black and it reminded him of the time when he was in Croatia with only 40 yao and a deaf donkey with only three legs....
STARGATE SG1-->
DANIEL JACKSON: the strip of linen Sha're used to tie his glasses together when they were in Abydos. After his return to Earth, Daniel had used it as a bookmark for his journal and forgotten about it. After 'Hathor', Jack found him sitting on the floor of his lab, holding that scrap of linen as if it was the only thing binding him to here and now.
JACK O'NEILL: the battered baseball/hockey ticket stub of Charlie's first game that Jack tucked inside his helmet whenever he crossed the gate. He had found it under Charlie's bed after he and Sarah packed up his things. On the first mission, Jack had took it with him, intending to hold on to it as he initated the bomb's countdown.
SUPERNATURAL-->
DEAN WINCHESTER: Sam's first drawing from school. He drew Dean, who looked as tall as the house he drew and could fly. Dean joked Sammy didn't know how to draw, but it's folded, covered in plastic and tucked in his wallet.
SAM WINCHESTER: the first dollar he earned, as Sam Winchester, no credit card fraud, nothing. Dean nearly spent it on some Laffy Taffy.
JOHN WINCHESTER: Dean's first tooth (okay, yeah, ewww) but he and Mary were going to put it in Dean's baby book, the one that never got done and were all collected up in a box to be done later except the fire burnt everything up but the tooth.
TORCHWOOD & DOCTOR WHO -->
JACK HARKNESS: a piece of glass shard from the scotch bottle he drank when he found himself back in 1941, and after he nearly ran into his then mortal self. Jack had been tempted to try and stop it from happening again by killing his younger self. Instead, he toasted the TARDIS from the rooftop, finished the scotch then smashed it before he could throw it at the Doctor below.
IANTO JONES: his ID badge from Torchwood 1. They had misspelled his name as Ainto Jones. Lisa had thought it was hilarious and called him "Aint" for nearly a month every time she saw him. She stopped when he asked her out for coffee finally.
GWEN COOPER: her report card from elementary school. It was all perfect As.
TOSHIKO SATO: a barrette her mother used to wear in her hair until it broke. Toshiko picked it up and kept it with the temple charms she used to get walking back from school in Japan.
OWEN HARPER: his fiance's Kate's mug that was left unwashed in the sink when he took her to the A&E. He nearly had a row with Gwen Cooper when he found her using it for coffee one night she'd stayed til morning.
DOCTOR: of geez, that's a hard one. Challenge: what would be the one thing a Time Lord might keep with him when he has a transdimensional TARDIS that is like the world's perfect closet space? LOL.
DONNA: "Stolen Earth" spoilers so I'll :X for now.
MARTHA JONES: a torn button from the Doctor's long wool coat. The man could be such a mess sometimes. She'd offer to sew it up but the Doctor merely replied the TARDIS would fix it. The next day, there was a new button on his coat so she kept the old one in her pocket.
BONES -->
TEMPERANCE BONES: the letter that said since she was 18, she was no longer a ward of the state and in the foster care system. She's never framed it as like she never framed her diplomas, never saw a need to preserve "documentation confirming what she already knows", but it's in her desk drawer at the Jeffersonian.
SEELEY BOOTH: Amazing Fantasy #16, the first appearance of Spiderman. You decide the reason why. :)

Here's an extra cookie question: the Doctor really makes a point to try not to get to attached to his companions (and we know how well that's working for him). Do you think he saves momentos of his companions like say, Rose's Union Jack shirt and so forth?
As for Jack, the greatcoat is definitely a keeper for him, but they never said why in the series (least I don't think). Do you have a theory?
As for Ianto. Look at the guy!

The Doctor.
Date: 2009-08-20 02:55 am (UTC)There are things that the Doctor has collected from each room and has carefully placed into his own, putting them on display away to remember each person with out having to ruin the perfect way the dust had settled over their rooms. They were little things, hair brushes, pens, books, things that people would forget they had just in cause he ever ran into them again. But they were important little things that the Doctor could hold in his hands.
The Doctor hates adding to his treasures, hates having to think of what to pluck from a room so that he wont forget his dearest and latest companion . Not that he'd ever forget, he is a Timelord after all, yet there is the fear that he might. He never wants to risk not remember these people, most of the human, that are/were so important to him.
There are rooms on the TARDIS still empty waiting for someone to take them, rooms that are perfect and clean, free of dust and personality. The Doctor avoids these rooms, hates seeing them for he knows one day he'll be collect something small, something personal from each one. Until then those rooms go untouched.
